Nanaimo Cross Country Race.  Report by the Lehton’s.  This is race number three of the island cup series and the fourth island cross country race including the Bear Mountain Canada cup.  Each of these race courses have been unique with Nanaimo being no exception.  This course in South Nanaimo, Extension area has been the longest race so far; 9 km, 254 meters of climbing and descending.  Its also been the most technical, featuring rock slabs of granite and conglomerate rock which make very interesting rolls and drop offs.  It was also very beautiful riding alongside Easter lilies, green moss, ferns in the Arbutus forest.  Compared to last year, the trails of this area have seem to have procreated, increased exponentially since last year’s race.  We will definitely have to come back and explore more of this network.

Today’s results featured Ian Lehton 3rd Hudson Webster 5th, and Malcolm Lehton 6th Beginner Men.  In Intermediate Men, Jake Yells placed 14th, Bryan Yells 25th.  In Expert Men Tristan Geisel placed 10th and Dan Lehton placed 25th.  Congratulations to Carter Woods of Cumberland for first place in Intermediate Men.

Today’s Trail Bicycles Club turn out was a little smaller as the Mount Washington Ski club was hosting the Coast Zone finals.  Many of our team are members of both clubs.
